Clariant unveils latest EnviCat® catalysts for NOx abatement at IE Expo China 2018

● Clariant's new NOx reduction catalysts offer comprehensive emission control for upstream and downstream processes
● Chemical and industrial producers benefit from the catalysts' high selectivity in reducing nitrogen oxide emissions
● IE Expo China is Asia’s leading trade fair for environmental technology solutions

Shanghai, May 3, 2018 — Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, will present its latest EnviCat® catalysts at IE Expo China 2018, Asia’s premier trade fair for environmental technology solutions. The new NOx abatement catalyst series offers comprehensive emission control for upstream and downstream processes in chemical and industrial applications. It is thus suitable for use by a variety of operators in China, and can support them in significantly reducing NOx emissions. IE Expo China 2018 will be held from May 3 to 5 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.

Nitrogen oxides (NOx), produced by fossil fuel combustion and industrial processes, contribute to the formation of smog, ground level ozone, acid rain, and other hazards. The effect is significant and harmful to the environment, wildlife and human health. Studies suggest that NOx particles penetrating the lungs can cause or aggravate diseases such as emphysema and bronchitis, among other serious health conditions.

The largest output of NOx emissions from non-automotive stationary sources arises from coal-fired boilers, especially those used in power generation. Petrochemical processes also produce large amounts of NOx gases, originating from utility boilers, cogeneration units, process heaters, steam methane reformers, ethylene cracking furnaces, and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) regeneration units. Other major sources include kilns and furnaces from the cement, lime, ferrous and non-ferrous metals industries.

In an effort to control air pollution in major cities, the Chinese government has set ambitious emission reduction targets, and has begun to forgo reliance on outdated coal and steel plants in favor of more efficient, environmentally friendly operations. For 2018, an emission reduction target of 3 percent has been set for sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, two major sources of hazardous airborne particles. Clariant’s new EnviCat NOx catalysts offer producers an optimal solution for greatly reducing nitrogen oxide emissions to alleviate air pollution and meet government targets.

EnviCat NOx, an extruded honeycomb-shaped block made from a vanadium-based composite, is designed for highly selective catalytic reduction of NOx in an oxidizing atmosphere. It uses ammonia as a reducing agent to convert nitrogen oxide pollutants into harmless nitrogen and water. The catalyst is proven to effectively lower NOx emissions from gas-fired exhaust streams, and is well suited to a multitude of chemical and industrial applications.

"IE Expo China is a perfect occasion for Clariant to showcase the latest advances in our EnviCat series of catalysts," said Thomas Wenger, Head of BU Catalysts at Clariant in China. "The new technology could make a huge impact on lowering NOx emissions, thus providing our customers with cost-effective solutions for both their upstream and downstream businesses.”

EnviCat® NOx SCR is available in module designs of varying lengths and cell densities, is easily installed and can be configured to the plant’s particular dimensions. The catalyst supports to achieve plant specific emission limit targets while effectively controlling NH3 slip under low to mid-temperature operation.

Clariant’s technical and customer service team will demonstrate the solutions for visitors from May 3-5 2018 during IE Expo China at the SNIEC in Shanghai. Explore Clariant’s booth at 4261 in Hall E4.
